Athens and Crete

The skill you travel for

A trip you come back from with something you can do. We check the four things that decide whether a class is worth your afternoon — level, language, what the price covers, and how you get there — and write them down for every programme on this page.

Every programme, the same set of facts

Every card carries the same fields, which is what makes the table below honest. Prices are what the provider charged on the date shown, for one adult, without extras.

How to choose a class you will not regret

Marketplaces answer one question: how to book. The questions that actually decide the afternoon are answered on the provider's own page, in an email reply, or nowhere at all. These are the four we ask before a programme goes on this page.

1. What "for beginners" means here

Some classes give you a task and your own workstation; others are a demonstration where you do the last easy step. Ask what you do in the first thirty minutes. We state the real level per programme instead of writing "all levels" for everyone.

2. The language the teaching actually happens in

A class listed in English may be taught in Greek and relayed by an assistant — half the instruction, awkward questions. Ask which language the teacher uses. We list languages of instruction, not the booking form's language.

3. What the price includes, and what appears later

Transfer, ingredients, drinks, tastings and tips are usually extra. Ask what's included and what's cash on the spot. We list both, with the date we last checked the price — a figure without a date isn't a fact.

4. Where it starts, and whether it fits your travel day

A studio outside Heraklion with nowhere to park, a class starting before your flight lands — logistics cause most complaints. Ask for the exact meeting point and what happens if you're late.

If a provider will not answer these four in writing before you pay, that is an answer in itself.

Getting there

The two cooking classes are inside Athens and need no car. The skydive and the two tandem-flight programmes meet at fields outside the cities with no pickup included, the horse ride includes hotel pickup only between Malia and Gouves, and the boat day starts at Chania's Nea Chora Port — check each card's meeting point. If you are landing the same day, a pre-booked transfer costs roughly what two airport taxis cost and does not depend on a queue.

Questions people actually ask

The objections that come up before booking, answered without marketing.

Do I need to speak Greek?

No. Every programme currently listed here runs in English — that is what the provider stated on the booking page, not a guess.

Is this suitable if I have never done it before?

Where the level says Beginner, yes: you get a hands-on task and the host corrects you as you work. Where it says Mixed levels, it usually means a guided tour or tasting rather than a graded class — there is nothing to be behind on.

Can I book a class for the day I land?

Possible, but leave at least four hours between landing and the start, and pick something in the city rather than outside it. Ask the provider in writing what happens if your flight is delayed — policies differ, and some keep the money.

Why is the price different from the provider website?

Prices move between seasons and platforms. We show what was charged on the date printed under the price, for one adult without extras (the boat day is priced per boat — see its own card). If the booking page now shows something else, the booking page is right and we will correct our figure.

Do you take a commission?

Yes, when you book through one of our links, and only then. It does not change your price, and no provider can pay to be listed or to rank higher on this page.

Can I bring a child?

Check the card first: one of the two Athens classes states a minimum age of 10, the other states none at all — which is not the same as confirming young children are welcome at a hot stove. Ask the provider directly before booking either way.

What if I want to cancel?

Cancellation terms belong to the provider and the booking platform, not to us — read the exact wording on the booking page before you pay. Most GetExperience listings here offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start, but not all: the rooftop cooking class has its own non-refundable policy inside 48 hours. The boat day works differently again — GetBoat guarantees a full refund if the weather turns, rather than a fixed cancellation window.
